CVAS (Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions), a division of Nortel, has recently partnered with Dimdim to integrate a business collaboration tool into its Hosted IP Communications solution. The integration is a response to growing requests from CVAS’s carriers for a collaborative tool. Sita Lowman, CVAS marketing leader, says that the new capability will be attractive to both small and large businesses thanks to the new software’s ability to connect multiple people to rich content in a very immediate way. “Certainly large enterprises are going to be very interested in this, just because of the team nature of what they do,” Lowman said. “Beyond just text and IM, you want your team to be able to collaborate together in a session in real time…Anytime you get one or two additional sites, that is when you really start to see the value.”

CVAS has shipped over 123 million carrier VoIP and multimedia ports, including over 11 million SIP lines to leading wireline and wireless carriers worldwide, and according to Sita Lowman, the Dimdim collaboration is a logical step in the division’s expansion. “As the world moves to IP, as more and more people go to teleworking, it just makes sense to add that collaboration ability on top the of the communications we are already having,” Lowman said. According to Lowman, CVAS first became interested in a partnership with Dimdim partly because of the software’s simple implementation: users simply drop a URL into a browser to join meetings, without needing to download or install a software client. Lowman also praised Dimdim’s ability to transition rapidly between calls and conferences, Dimdim’s capability to annotate documents, and Dimdim’s ability to accommodate multiple presenters and leaders. “We looked at a number of different third-party providers and we felt they had the most feature-rich set of capabilities,” Lowman said.

Dimdim’s software is compatible with most popular operating systems including Mac, Windows, and Linux, and provides desktop sharing, document sharing, video broadcasting, multi-way VoIP audio conferencing, instant messaging, and shared whiteboards with annotation tools. The new collaboration between Dimdim and CVAS is scheduled to become available in the second half of the 2010 business year.
