VPS (Virtual Private Server) or Semi-Dedicated web hosting, describes a single server that's partitioned into many pieces to act like multiple servers. It allows the user complete control over their dedicated section, which becomes their own operating system.

Advantages:

  1. Users maintain full admin or root access to their servers.
  2. Your section is segregated from all the other users on the server.
  3. Hardware and network are handled by the hosting provider.
  4. Less expensive than a fully dedicated plan.

Disadvantages:

  1. Users need to maintain some of the server-side administration like application installation and maintenance.
  2. Hardware is still in a shared environment.
  3. More expensive than a simple shared hosting plan.

Costs

  1. $30-100 per month with some setup fees.

Buyers

  1. A more advanced webmaster.
  2. Personal websites.
  3. Higher traffic blogs.
  4. Small company withe medium traffic and little to no IT presence.
