Microsoft Offers New CRM Social Networking Feature

Microsoft has announced that it is going to expand the “collaborative ability” of its Dynamics CRM product. Currently, Dynamics CRM is the company’s customer relationship management tool. The expansion will include a social networking feature that includes “activity feeds” for new and existing users.

The activity feeds will utilize Microsoft’s Outlook email software. They will appear as a “wall” within Outlook, and users will be able to perform a variety of functions through it, such as interacting with co-workers who are also connected and posting information. Adding mobile capability to the mix, the feature will also be available as an app for Windows Phone 7. The company has plans to expand the product’s social networking features in the months and years to come.

Observers have noted that this development comes on the heels of other similar social networking tools already on the market, including Salesforce.com’s “Chatter” message service. Salesforce.com’s shares, for instance, have risen 38% since the debut of Chatter in June of 2010.

The development and spread of this social networking technology has revolutionized the way companies do business in the global economy. Microsoft is clearly set to join this pace, eager to catch up to the current leaders in the market.
