Alcatel-Lucent Now #2 in IP Router Market

Up 20.5% in 2010

The Infonetics 2010 fourth quarter report stated that Alcatel-Lucent is now the second in the global IP router market with revenues up to 56%, surpassing Juniper in sales. Alcatel-Lucent, known for its IP edge routers, had its best-ever quarter in revenues.

The report also highlights the carrier Ethernet switch and IP router market, which grew 20.5% to $12.8 billion over 2009 -- with North America leading the market growth.

An interesting statistic contained in the Infonetics report is that the sales of IP edge and core routers and carrier Ethernet switches grew 15.2% from the third quarter of 2010. These sales are up to 23.4% when compared with the same quarter a year ago.

Another area of growth noted by the report is related to Cisco, which increased its global IP router and carrier Ethernet switch income by 21.6% in 2010, grabbing 42.5% of the market share.

As expected, ATM switches shrunk 48% to $308 million in 2010.
