Cisco Data Center Solutions to Support SQL Server

On May 16, 2011, Cisco announced two new data center solutions that will support the Microsoft SQL Server. These products will allow customers to run Microsoft enterprise software on hardware that uses the Cisco Unified Computing System.

The first solution is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Fast Track Data Warehouse for Cisco Unified Computing System. This new product is specifically designed for mid-sized and large businesses who need to combine server, storage and networking technology for Microsoft Server 2008 in an optimal manner. It also greatly simplifies system selections based on the specific needs of the consumer and is configured to include prominent storage vendors like EMC and NetApp.

The second solution is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 OLTP reference configuration for Cisco UC. This product provides customers with prescriptive guidelines that show how to properly deploy the Cisco Unified Computing System and enterprise storage configurations. It is also fully optimized for online transaction processing workloads and designed to lower the total cost of ownership of the system. Additional storage options for the solution will be released at a future data.

Cisco is one of the world’s largest providers of networking and communication technology. Their Unified Computing System provides a series of cloud-based services that includes Cisco Unified Presence, Cisco Unified Communications Manager, and Cisco Unified Contact Center.
