Avaya’s new web-based collaboration platform will be available March 1, 2011 (www.avayalive.com). This platform is designed as an immersive, social solution to virtual meetings, classes, and interactions for businesses and organizations.

With an eye toward creating an environment that operates intuitively and fluidly in order to foster collaboration and innovation, Avaya has built many customizable options into both the interface and the pricing options. The goal of this platform is to enable businesses to tailor its workings to fit their individual needs and to create an online environment that takes into account specific nuances and relationships.

Along with customizable templates for creating meeting spaces or other environments and desktop sharing features, Avaya is particularly proud of its 3D audio engine – which will help “participants better identify and understand who is speaking and their location within the environment”. These features will allow meetings to take place online that have a much closer feel to an “in-person” meeting, and hopefully improve communication and collaboration.

The pricing options, in particular, are attractive and make this a more viable solution for many businesses. Rather than being solely a subscription based service, this platform will also be available to those who might have use for it for a short term project or as a resource in addition to existing tools.
