Best VoIP Blogs

The blogosphere can be a great place to get information about a variety of things. Learning about VoIP is something that blogs can offer. As with any topic, though, you need to be careful of the blogs you choose to read; many can just be rants and contain inaccurate information. To help make sure your reading list is worthwhile, this article will provide you with an overview of the top 10 VoIP blogs out there.

Note that the blogs are listed in no particular order.

The Blogs

  1. Alec Saunders (http://saunderslog.com). Mr. Saunders describes himself as an entrepreneur, adventurer, and occasional geek. Other pages on the web describe him as the one of the deans of VoIP and VoIP blogging. He is the former CEO and co-founder of Calliflower, and has over 20 years of experience in product management and marketing. He worked for 9 years at Microsoft, where he helped to launch Windows 95, the first two versions of Internet Explorer, the Universal Plug and Play initiative, among others. His blog should be considered “must reading” for those involved in VoIP.
  2. VoIP Insider (http://blog.voipsupply.com). As its name touts, this blog offers information on all aspects of the VoIP world. There is news on what is going on in the VoIP world, reviews of VoIP products, technical advice, information on Open Source VoIP, commentary, education, and a wealth of other topics. This “one stop for everything VoIP” blog has something for everyone.
  3. VoIP Watch (http://andyabramson.blogs.com/voipwatch/). Offering news and commentary on the world of VoIP, this blog is a good stop to keep up-to-date on daily happenings. Writer Andy Abramson is considered to be one of the most connected men in VoIP. He is very straightforward and direct in his blogging.
  4. GigaOM (http://gigaom.com/). This is the home site of the GigaOM network of technical information as well as the home site of Om Malik, one of the most prolific entrepreneurs, journalists, and bloggers out there. There is a wealth of information on VoIP as well as other technical topics.
  5. Jon Arnold’s Analyst 2.0 Blog (http://www.ipcom-insights.com/blog/jon/default.aspx). It’s best to let Mr. Arnold describe his blog: “Independent analysis of the IP communications sector – VoIP, Mobile Broadband, IPTV, Unified Communications, Telepresence, Mashups, Web 2.0, Social Media, etc. Plus, my thoughts on all other things I enjoy during the rest of the day like the Red Sox and great music. And more recently, Smart Grid too!” Sounds like a great place to hang out, doesn’t it?
  6. Mark Evans Tech (http://www.markevanstech.com/). Mr. Evans is a Canadian blogger offering insight into the telecommunications world from the Great White North. His most recent article as of this writing dealt with Canada needing to save RIM.
  7. Skype Journal (http://skypejournal.com/). This is an independent blog that provides information on everything and anything having to do with Skype and VoIP.
  8. The VoIP Weblog (http://www.voip-weblog.com/). This frequently updated blog by Jeff Goldman covers all things VoIP.
  9. VoIP Survivor (http://blog.radvision.com/voipsurvivor/). Part of the Radvision community of bloggers, this blog offers insights into IMS and the VoIP industry in considerable depth.
  10. Switched (http://downloadsquad.switched.com/tag/VOIP). At one point this was a member of the big blogging network Weblogs, Inc.; now it is part of the HuffPost Tech network. The site offers a variety of technical articles, including VoIP.
