Small Business VoIP company 8x8 (formerly Packet8) has now connected to the New Edge AX ecosystem of business applications. Dan Weirich, chief financial officer and president of 8x8, hopes that the new connection will let 8x8 “better address the VoIP security and performance needs of both SMBs and larger enterprises that require private managed networks to conduct business operations.”

Company officials also expressed hope about the ability to boost SMBs’ VoIP security, a serious concern as the VoIP industry itself and the nuisance of VoIP hackers are now growing at unprecedented rates. Weirich claimed that “Businesses that have been reluctant to transition to IP telephony because of concerns with underlying network performance.”

New Edge AX uses a nationwide network platform to connect application providers, like 8x8, with customers. Connecting through New Edge offers customers the reliability and security of a performance-driven cloud-computing environment. New Edge president Cardi Prinzi described the benefits of New Edge by saying “With New Edge AX, the SMB market can now access a suite of business applications including 8x8's VoIP solution using a secure network platform provided by New Edge” She also assures 8x8 consumers that the new connection will not change the quality of 8x8 VoIP services, and that new customers “will be able to experience all of the features, benefits and cost advantages of 8x8's services in the New Edge AX environment.”
