Yankee Group picks mobile winners and losers for 2014

Android to push past the one billion shipment mark in 2014

The Android operating system will reach 1.1 billion users this year across all device types, a jump of 26 percent over the 2013 shipments figure, according to Gartner. But the analyst firm is actually predicting a larger percentage increase for iOS and Mac OS devices, up 29 percent from 267 million devices shipped in 2013 to a projected 344 million in 2014.

Mozilla flags 'higher end' Firefox OS phones on the way and moves on to tablets

IBM: Smartphones drove holiday mobile traffic, but tablets delivered sales

The big takeaway from IBM's fourth quarter retail online index report is that while smartphones fostered far and away the most traffic on mobile platforms, tablets delivered most prominently for what could be construed as the most important metric: sales. Covering the time frame between October 1 and December 31, IBM found that smartphones drove 21.3 percent of all online traffic, close to double what tablets produced at 12.8 percent.
